Culture
The cultural wealth of the northwestern coast of Lake Garda, also known as Lemon Coast, will deliver an unforgettable experience to your holiday! Medieval walls and towers surround villages and bring you way back into the past. The Scaliger and Venetians built fortresses reminiscent of historic battles and great army leaders. The magnificent mansions, which witnessed some of Italy’s major historical events, are proof of wealth, power and peace times. The wonderful “Palazzo Bettoni” (Gargnano - late 17th Century) is one of the most beautiful villas on Lake Garda. The monumental “Vittoriale degli Italiani” (Gardone Riviera) built and owned by Italian poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, who inhabited it until the first half of the 20th Century, forms an extravagant complex of streets, squares, theaters, parks and waterways. Another absolute historical must to visit are the ruins of the Roman Villa in Sirmione, known as “Grotte di Catullo” after the death of Roman poet Catullus, in 54 B.C. It is the greatest remain of a private Roman villa in the entire northern Italy. Many other famous writers and artists including Goethe, DH Lawrence and Gustav Klimt, enriched the cultural opulence of the lemon coast with their presence.
